The patented Conical Connection System™ is a cost-effective solution to simplifying the construction of both railroad and highway bridges. CCS™ is designed to permit the modular construction of structures by incorporating mating cones to transfer horizontal, vertical, and bending loads from one structural element to another.
The male and female cones fit into the caps on top of the piles and are key to the Conical Connection System™. They assure increased quality control and flexibility during construction. Vertical leveling attachments complete the CCS™ method of construction.
The simple, modular bridge design of CCS™ greatly reduces costs as compared to current construction methods. It also eliminates the need for heavy construction expertise, as on-site personnel only need to lower a pre-cast bent into place. Also, the ability to pre-cast the concrete caps off-site greatly reduces costs. Moreover, the downtime for a bridge under repair is substantially reduced, from weeks to just a day or two.
Male cones are placed on driven piles. Measurements are taken on-site and sent to the precaster to ensure the female cones are placed in cap forms conforming to the field measurements. Once the precasts are ready, the caps are delivered to the jobsite and lowered onto the piles.
